Gift Aid Disqualification Rules

You can set up rules to determine the conditions that automatically disqualify gifts for Gift Aid. The program bases the qualification of revenue you enter on the criteria you set up on the Gift Aid Disqualification Rules tab. For example, you can disqualify gifts given to the 2014 Volunteer Dinner. To disqualify these gifts, create a disqualification rule based on Event with the criteria Volunteer Dinner.

Warning: The first time you define Gift Aid disqualification rules, it is imperative you run the Update Gift Aid qualification status global change definition. Otherwise, your existing gifts do not receive a Gift Aid qualification status. Consequently, the program cannot accurately determine the tax claim eligibility for your gifts. For more information, refer to Update Gift Aid Status.

Warning: You can claim tax only on gifts that are tax claim eligible. To claim tax on a gift, the gift must qualify for Gift Aid and the constituent who makes the donation must have a declaration active on the gift date with a Pays tax status of "Yes." If the constituent makes the declaration orally, the Confirmation sent date must be before or on the gift date. The effective dates of declarations can overlap, as long as the declarations have a Pays tax status of "Yes" during the shared time period. A constituent may also have declarations for multiple sites as long as the Pays tax status does not conflict with the start and end dates. Declaration records are stored on the Declarations tab of a constituent’s Revenue Information page.

In the Gift Aid site-based disqualification rules grid, you can create rules to disqualify specific campaign, designation, appeal, event, or membership records. By default, these records qualify for Gift Aid unless you create a disqualification rule to specify otherwise. A Gift Aid status appears in the summary section of these records.

The Site column is read-only and displays the site associated with the base-on criteria for a rule. For example, you create a disqualification rule and select “Appeals” in the Based on field. You select “2014 Holiday Event” in the Appeal criteria field. The site associated with 2014 Holiday Event automatically displays in the Site column for the disqualification rule.

Note: When a campaign or event is associated with multiple sites, a row appears in the grid for each associated site. When a user has access to at least one site, all associated sites appear in separate rows. These sites appear regardless if a user has rights to view additional sites.

If you can access multiple sites, use the Site field to filter and select the sites you want to view. Disqualification rules associated with sites you can access appear in the grid. For more information about site security, refer to Sites and Site Security.

In the Gift Aid global disqualification rules grid, you can create rules to globally disqualify by payment method or revenue category. Global disqualification rules are not site-specific.

When you create a rule to disqualify by specific payment method, a Gift Aid qualification status appears on the Details tab of the payment record. The Gift Aid qualification status displays in the Application details section.
