View a history of impersonations

Platform managers (with the impersonate history security task enabled) can view a history of:

  • which users have impersonated other users,

  • which users have used "view as",

  • who they have impersonated,

  • who they have used "view as" for,

  • when they impersonated the other users,

  • and when they used "view as."

To view this list, navigate to Core, select Security, then select Impersonation history.

Filter the history by time or action. Then search by name. Use this to review activity for security or managerial purposes.

For example, identify users who may need their roles and tasks adjusted (to grant them access to features), investigate whether an important action could have been completed by an impersonator, and more.

Tip: For information about how to impersonate someone and the limits of impersonation, see impersonate user. For information about how to "view as student," see view as user (view only) and security permissions for "view as."

Note: Data regarding which platform managers impersonated another user, who they impersonated, and when, is stored for two years. Information about "view as" is likewise stored for two years. After two years, this data history is purged. This data is removed when it is no longer relevant, in accordance with Blackbaud's data retention and security policies.
