Enable security permissions for "view as"

Platform managers use security tasks to enable employees to see a student's view.

Consider enabling the these tasks for members of security roles at your school.

  • View as access check (Task ID 55488)

The access checker enables platform managers to review why a user can (or can't) "view as" another user. The access checker also shows any limitations, such as school level or dates.

  • View as any student (Task ID 55420)

Enable this task for system admins. You must also select school level filters. If no filters are selected, members won’t have access to “view as,” even if the task is enabled for their role.

The filters determine which students the members of the role can “view as.”

To enable access to “view as” any student from the entire school, select all the filters. Otherwise, limit their access by selecting filters for specific school levels.

  • View as my students (Task ID 55416)

When enabled, faculty memberscan view as any of their students.

They can only view students who are on their rosters. They can only "view as" after the start date for access to the group page roster. See also group page access

  • View as my advisees (Task ID 55419) - Enables adviser to view as any of their advisees.

They can only view students who are in their advisory. They can only "view as" after the start date for access to the group page roster. See also group page access

As a user with security permission to view a student or advisee, the student you want to view must:

  • have the student role or incoming student role,

  • be enrolled or registered for the current school year,

  • not be withdrawn.

Tip: To see a student's viewpoint (view only), see view as user. Unlike impersonation, users can't save changes or take action on the student's behalf. "View as" is view only. Social security numbers (SSN), credit cards, medical data, and other highly secured information are also hidden from view.
