Check access for "view as"

Platform managers can review why a user can (or can’t) “view as” another user.

  1. From Core, select Security.

  2. Select Access checker.

  3. For View, search for and select the user who wants to "view as" another.

  4. For Viewing, search for and select the user whose information and viewpoint should be shown.

  5. Select Check access.

The relevant security tasks for their access and any limitations appear. Limitations include:

    • The student must have the student role or incoming student role.

    • The student must be enrolled or registered for the current school year.

    • The student must not be withdrawn.

    • System admins must have at least one school level filter enabled. If no filters are selected, members of the system admin role won’t have access to “view as,” even if the task is enabled for their role.

    • Faculty can only view students who are in their class.

    • Advisors can only view students who are in their advisory.

    • Faculty and advisors can only "view as" after the start date for access to the group page roster. See also group page access

Tip: To see a student's viewpoint (view only), see view as user. Unlike impersonation, users can't save changes or take action on the student's behalf. "View as" is view only. Social security numbers (SSN), credit cards, medical data, and other highly secured information are also hidden from view.
