Attendance Rules for Conduct
Conduct managers can create attendance rules to tie tardies and absences to consequences. Rules are tied to specific school levels and group types. Attendance types and Infractions must be created before adding translation rules.
Attendance managers determine if attendance is recorded per period or per day. While a student can always be marked as absent for partial or multiple days, this setting determines the number of absences in the system, referred to as an Attendance of Record. In Conduct, Attendance Rules look at Attendance of Record totals.
If attendance is recorded per period, the system creates a record every time a student is marked as absent or tardy. With this method, Attendance of Record totals are based on how many sections the student has missed.
If attendance is recorded per day, the school chooses specific classes or meeting times when a daily attendance is taken. If the student is present for this section, and is marked as absent later in the day, this absence may not reflect in Conduct. With this method, Attendance of Record totals are based on whether or not the student was absent or tardy when the daily attendance was recorded.
The Attendance of Record totals are what cause Consequences to be issued.
Note: A student's Attendance of Record history can be viewed from the Academic Profile Progress Tab.
This help topic explains the Attendance rules tab of Conduct setup. For information on the other tabs, see Conduct Infractions Setup, Conduct Consequences Setup, and Conduct Infraction Thresholds.

Students are assigned infractions based on levels
Select this option if unique infractions are assigned according to thresholds. For example, your school might have different consequences when a student hits 5, 10, and 20 tardies. If you select this option, you will be prompted to Add another translation level. In the above example, you would create three translation levels, one each for when a student reaches 5, 10, and 20 tardies.
-
The same rules are used each time
Select this option if the same infraction is assigned every time a student receives a certain number of tardies. For example, your school might assign the same infraction to a student every 5 tardies. If you select this option, you will be prompted to Add another translation rule. In the above example, you would only need to create one translation rule and specify that it applies every time a student gets 5 of the entries.
-
We use both
Select this option if your school both uses levels and rules.
If you select this option, you will be prompted to add both translation levels and translation rules. To create levels (for example, assigning distinct consequences at 5, 10, and 20 tardies, respectively), select Add another translation level.
