Set Up Field Validation

Set up validation rules to control which responses are accepted and when users can submit a form. Strong validation improves data quality and reduces manual cleanup during review.

Require all field options to have a response (Field group only)

Note: This option is available only for Field group fields.

  1. Hover over the field on the form page.

  2. Select the Edit component icon from the toolbar that appears.

  3. In the Configuration screen, select the Validation tab.

  4. Select the option that requires all field-group entries to have a response.

  5. Enter a custom error message for incomplete responses.

  6. Save your changes.

Specify a minimum or maximum number of responses

Note: This option is available for Field group and Table fields.

  1. Hover over the field on the form page.

  2. Select the Edit component icon from the toolbar that appears.

  3. In the Configuration screen, select the Validation tab.

  4. Enter the minimum or maximum number of responses allowed.

    Note: The specified count is shown in the form component.

  5. Enter a custom error message for count or response-rule mismatches.

  6. Save your changes.

Specify a minimum or maximum value (Number only)

Note: This option is available only for Number fields.

  1. Hover over the field on the form page.

  2. Select the Edit component icon from the toolbar that appears.

  3. In the Configuration screen, select the Validation tab.

  4. Set the accepted minimum or maximum numeric value.

  5. Enter a custom error message for values outside the accepted range.

  6. Save your changes.

Specify the total value that options must add up to (Field group only)

Note: This option is available only for Field group fields.

  1. Hover over the field on the form page.

  2. Select the Edit component icon from the toolbar that appears.

  3. In the Configuration screen, select the Validation tab.

  4. Enter the total that all responses must equal (for example, 100).

    Note: Field group percentage fields require responses to total 100% by default.

  5. Enter a custom error message for totals that do not match the required value.

  6. Save your changes.
