Select Media Targets

Letter to the Editor Alerts target media organizations or individuals. You can target a group (such as California Daily Newspapers) or a single organization (The San Francisco Chronicle) or an individual editor or other contact (Bob Smith at the Austin Gazette).

Luminate Online provides extensive directories of national, local, and foreign media organizations and individuals within those organizations. Media data is provided by the third-party vendor KnowWho, which is also the provider for Luminate Online's state and federal legislative data. The data includes the following print, broadcast, and other media Categories:

  • National, Daily, and Weekly Newspapers

  • Magazines

  • Foreign Press

  • Television Networks and Stations

  • Radio Networks and Stations

  • Online

  • Newsletters

  • Media Organizations

  • News Services

  • Publishing Companies

The database includes multiple points of contact (fax and email) at each weekly and daily newspaper, focused on reaching the Letters to the Editor or Editorial Page. For newspapers with large circulations, the names of key news and management executives are included.

Depending on which media category you start with, you can filter your targets by criteria such as region, circulation, or radio power range, and then choose whether to use Constituent Matching to match advocates to targets by ZIP code.

On the Advanced Options page, you can set the maximum number of letters that a target may receive for that alert, to prevent any one media organization from being overwhelmed by messages.
