Constituent Matching in LTE Alerts

When you select media targets for a Letter to the Editor (LTE) alert on the Select Media Targets page, you'll also specify whether to match advocates to targets by ZIP code.

To match constituents to targets

  1. Navigate to the Select Media Targets page.

  2. Set Constituent Matching to one of the following options:

    • Local to match constituents by ZIP code which restricts participation by area. This is one way to add impact to letters, and also helps prevent any one target from being overwhelmed with letters.

    • Any to permit constituents to send letters to any or all of the currently-selected targets.

Sara is a client in a nationally-based organization. Her organization is working to pass a critical bill, HR 123. Sara would like their constituents to write to the editors of their local newspapers explaining the importance of the bill. She hopes some letters will be published. Sara creates a new Letter to the Editor Alert. When selecting targets, she chooses the criteria Daily Newspapers > All and sets Constituent Matching to Local. She publishes the alert. Constituents in Portland, Oregon send letters to their local newspaper. Their representative reads the paper, including the letter(s) published in the Letter to the Editor column. He decides to vote for HR 123. This happens across the country.
