Navigation Link Sets

The links used for the Section Navigation component are configured as a set in a folder's properties dialog. The navigation link set for any folder applies to all pages in that folder, and also applies by default to any folder created within it. However, a Manager for a child folder can configure separate navigation for that folder and override its parent folder's navigation.

For example, suppose a website has one folder called About Us and another folder called Services. Each folder is configured with a different navigation link set. A wrapper containing the Section Navigation component and applied to pages in both folders will generate and display one set of navigational links for pages in the About Us folder and another set for pages in the Services folder.

Make sure any folder you use in a navigation link set has a published index page. Otherwise, the folder will display as a link in the section navigation for a live page, but when the link is clicked the target page will say "This page has no published content."

Items in the link set can be nested to multiple levels (tiers), up to the maximum configured for your site. In other words, you can set up section navigation links like this:

Link 1
- Sublink A
- Sublink B
Link 2

And also like this:

Link 1
- Sublink A
- - Sub-sublink i
- - - Sub-sub-sublink a
- - - Sub-sub-sublink b
- - Sub-sublink ii
- Sublink B
Link 2

A distinct CSS class is applied to nested folders. For details about styling section navigation, refer to Managing Site Presentation.
