Customizing the Tell-A-Friend Message

The event details page contains a Tell-A-Friend link that people who signup for an event can send to friends to tell them about the event and encourage them to sign up. You can use the default settings and content or customize them. Note that you cannot customize the text of the embedded opt-out link, and you cannot removed the link. (Click for information about Tell-A-Friend opt-out.)

If you do not customize the Tell-A-Friend message and link appearance, the default Tell-A-Friend image and content will be used. To exit from this page without making any customizations, click Cancel.

To customize a Tell-A-Friend message

  1. From Related Actions, click Customize Tell-A-Friend. The Customize Tell-a-Friend page displays.

  2. For Message Subject, enter the customized subject line to display to the recipients of this message when they receive it in the email (for example, Come to this Event with Me).

  3. For Message Subject Editing, to:

    • Force the message senders to keep the subject as you entered it, click the No, the sender cannot modify the message subject line radio button.

    • Or, enable the message senders to modify the subject, leave the Allow the user to edit the message subject radio button selected.

  4. For Message Body Content, enter the text that message recipients will read when they open the Tell-A-Friend message sent to them. (The body text displays above the event link that the system automatically inserts into the message.)

  5. For Message Body Editing, to:

    • Force the message senders to use the text that you have entered, leave the No, the sender cannot modify the body content radio button selected.

    • Or, enable message senders to insert additional information to the text that you have entered, click the The sender cannot modify the body content but can add more content to this message radio button.

    • Or, enable message senders to add or delete information from the text, click the Yes, the sender can modify the body content radio button.

  1. For Tell-A-Friend Link Style for the link that senders will click to open the Tell-A-Friend message:

    • Leave Tell-A-Friend Image selected on the drop-down list to use the default image.

    • Or, click the Text radio button. (Note that using a text link may affect your page wrapper).

  2. For Link Text, enter the text to use as the link or to use as the ALT text in the image tag.

  3. Click the Finish button. This page closes and the Configure Additional Information page displays again.

    Note: To remove any changes you have made and revert to the default Tell-A-Friend message form, click Reset in step 7.
