What does each Organization Type mean?
Organization Types for organizations based in the United States

Note: You will need to know the name of the tribe as recorded with the US Bureau of Indian Affairs.
Organization Types that apply to organizations in and outside of the United States
In addition to the Organization Types specific to the United States, there are subdivisions that apply to the majority of organizations regardless of location. When registering, you will prompted to select one of the options below in Step 2: Organization Type.
-
Stand-alone Nonprofit or National Office - This option indicates you represent a stand-alone nonprofit or with the national office of a larger organization.
-
Chapter or Affiliate - This option indicates you do not hold your own tax-exempt status, but instead operate under a larger organization.
Note: Typically, you'd choose this option if you are considered a chapter, affiliate, or sponsored organization.
