Get Your Nonprofit Vetted

Welcome to Blackbaud Verified Network’s nonprofit vetting guide! Before your organization can receive donations, grants, or matching gifts through the YourCause platform, it needs to be vetted. This process verifies your charity status and ensures compliance with regulations.

How Vetting Works

Vetting is the process of confirming that your organization meets all legal, financial, and compliance requirements to receive funds. Every organization must be vetted before it can receive donations, matches, or grants through YourCause.

Vetting paths differ by country - and special cases. Each organization’s vetting steps are determined by where the nonprofit is based or special criteria. For nonprofits outside the United States, Blackbaud partners with local vetting organizations to meet regional requirements where available.

Find Your Organization's Vetting Guide

The steps to get your organization vetted vary depending on your country of registration - and in some special cases, how long your organization has been operating. Blackbaud Verified Network supports two main vetting methods:

  • Direct vetting via the Blackbaud Giving Fund (or Blackbaud Giving Fund International)

  • Partner-led vetting with a local organization via Global Partners or Global Intermediary Partners

The table below shows which process applies to different regions, so you can quickly find the right approach for your nonprofit:

Location Vetting Partner Next Steps
United States Blackbaud Giving Fund U.S. organizations are vetted via IRS records or apply through Blackbaud Verified Network (see How To Get Vetted In The United States).
Canada Global Partner - CanadaHelps Register with CanadaHelps for vetting (see How To Get Vetted via CanadaHelps).
Germany Global Partner - Haus des Stiftens Register with Haus des Stiftens for vetting (see How To Get Vetted via Haus des Stiftens).
United Kingdom (Including Northern Ireland And Scotland) Global Partner - Charities Trust Register with Charities Trust for vetting (see How To Get Vetted via Charities Trust).
China, Egypt, India, Mexico, or Venezuela (and special cases) Special-case vetting (Global Intermediary Partners) Vetting by donor-request only. Contact YourCause Support for guidance or see How To Get Vetted Through Global Intermediary Partners.
All other countries Blackbaud Giving Fund (BBGF) International Complete BBGF's global vetting application (see How To Get Vetted Through Blackbaud Giving Fund International).

How to interpret this:

  • If your country is explicitly listed with a Global Partner, follow the partner’s vetting process (via their website) rather than applying directly through Blackbaud.

  • If your country falls under special-case vetting, wait for a donor company’s interest and contact YourCause Support – these are not self-service.

  • For all other international nonprofits, you will pursue the BBGF International vetting by submitting an online vetting application in Blackbaud Verified Network.

Special Cases

Due to regulatory complexities or limited partner availability, Blackbaud Verified Network uses an individual vetting approach for special cases. These special cases include:

  • Organizations located in China, Egypt, India, Mexico, or Venezuela

  • Organizations operating for less than five years (do not have five years of financial history)

These organizations are vetted by Global Intermediary Partners only if needed for a donor’s request, instead of through an open application. If your organization is in one of these special-case locations or does not have at least five years of financial history, you cannot initiate vetting on your own. Instead, you may need to let interested donors (or corporate program administrators) know your organization requires a special vetting request. YourCause Support will reach out to guide you if and when such a request occurs.

Note: If your assigned vetting partner is Blackbaud Giving Fund International and you do not have the required financial history, contact YourCause Support for guidance.

Next Steps

Once you know which path to follow, proceed to the relevant topic for step-by-step instructions. If in doubt, you can contact YourCause Support for clarification on which process applies to you.

Tip: Not ready to start the vetting process? Even if you do not apply for vetting right away, you can register as a nonprofit administrator for your organization in the Blackbaud Verified Network and identify your vetting path now. This way, you’ll know exactly what steps to take and which documents to provide when you are ready to complete the vetting process.
