Global Vetting Guide For Germany: Apply Through Haus des Stiftens

If your organization is registered in Germany as a charity, follow this guide to complete vetting through our partner, Haus des Stiftens.

Before You Begin

Check Whether Special Case Vetting Applies

If your organization is located outside of the United States and has fewer than five years of financial history, you may need to complete vetting through a Global Intermediary Partner instead. For details, see Global Vetting Guide For Special Cases: Apply Through Global Intermediary Partners.

Tip: If a corporate donor requests vetting for your organization through YourCause, you’ll receive an email from Blackbaud Verified Network at no-reply@yourcause.com with instructions.

Create Your Nonprofit Admin Account in Blackbaud Verified Network

You must be registered as a nonprofit administrator for your organization in the Blackbaud Verified Network. This grants you access to manage your organization's information in YourCause, including the profile shown to potential donors.

If you do not have an account, see the registration guide for your location to learn how to create your account, add or claim your organization and submit an admin request. After submitting your request and required documentation, Blackbaud's Compliance will review it and follow up if additional information is needed. Review typically takes two business days, and you will be notified when approved.

Tip: Already have an account? Confirm that you're listed as an admin for your organization by signing into your account and opening My Nonprofits. If your organization is not shown in the list of organizations you've claimed, select Start a new administrator request in My Nonprofits to submit an admin request. For details, see Administer Multiple Organizations.

German Organization Requirements

To be added to the Blackbaud Verified Network, organizations based in Germany must be vetted through Haus des Stiftens and provide a valid Steuernummer. The Steuernummer is a German tax identification number issued by the local tax authority (Finanzamt). It serves as the official identifier for tax and charitable compliance.

Note: This requirement applies to all German organizations, including those participating in volunteering or giving programs.

Requiring a Steuernummer ensures that:

  • Organizations are properly registered and recognized by German authorities

  • Validation standards remain consistent across regions

  • Donations and engagement activities align with local regulatory requirements

German organizations may have other identifiers, such as registry numbers or legal entity numbers. These identifiers do not meet this requirement.

Note: If an organization cannot provide a Steuernummer, it cannot be added to the Blackbaud Verified Network.

Vetting Overview

Vetting confirms that your organization is a registered charity in Germany and is eligible to receive donations.

For German charities, vetting is completed through Haus des Stiftens, not through the Blackbaud Verified Network. Haus des Stiftens verifies that your organization meets local legal requirements and manages donation disbursements.

Vetting includes these tasks:

  1. Register and complete onboarding with Haus des Stiftens

  2. Set up access in the Blackbaud Verified Network to manage the organization profile in YourCause

After Haus des Stiftens approves your charity, the organization appears to donors in the Blackbaud Verified Network and across the YourCause platform.

This topic explains what is required, how to register, and what happens after approval.

Tip: You must create a Blackbaud Verified Network account to manage your profile and organization information in YourCause. This is separate from the vetting process. For details, see the Global Vetting Guide For Germany: Apply Through Haus des Stiftens step.
