Fundraising Analysis Overview

To quickly assess your organization's overall fundraising efforts, select Analysis, Fundraising dashboards for a dashboard of key metrics. Under Overview, you have — at a glance — a pulse-check of how well your organizationacquires donors and gifts, raises money toward campaigns and funds, and much more. To increase the impact on your mission, use this analysis to drive action and inform your next steps.

To view the Overview dashboard, select Add, Overview, Open. The dashboard includes the following metrics.

To view a list of records included in the number-crunching, select the total or metric. For further analysis, select Create list to open the list, where you can apply additional filters, choose columns, and save for future reuse. For more information, see Lists.

To help ease analysis in the future or offline:

  • To easily apply frequently-used filters to the dashboard, select the filter criteria and then save their view for your personal reuse. For more information, see Saved Views of Dashboards.

  • To review the dashboard offline, download it as a PDF, or automatically receive a PDF as an email on a regular basis. For more information, see PDFs of Analyze Metrics.

Note: Hang tight! It may take up to three hours for these metrics to update based on new or edited information. If no one at your organization has used the reports in over a month, the initial data refresh might take up to 24 hours.

Tip: In Analysis, Report builder, you can create a dashboard of your own custom fundraising metrics. For more information, see Dashboards.

Giving

To quickly identify and analyze spikes or slumps in giving and gauge the overall effectiveness of fundraising efforts, refer to the metrics under Giving.

Tip: With the Revenue type filter, you can choose whether to analyze revenue received through cash-in-hand giving or committed through pledges and matching gifts. For more information, see Revenue Types.

  • Under Gifts, you can view key statistics of giving, such as how much through how many gifts, their average amount, and the total outstanding from overdue pledge installments. For more information, see Gifts Received Analysis.

  • Under Year over year performance, you can quickly compare trends in annual giving over the current fiscal year to the previous two years, to analyze whether your fundraising's on track. For more information, see Year-to-date Received Revenue.

  • Under Top campaigns, you can compare giving toward your ten top-grossing active campaigns and their goals. With this analysis, you can quickly identify which initiatives donors prefer and which are at risk of meeting their goals. For more information, see Overall Campaigns.

  • Under Top funds, you can compare giving toward your ten top-grossing active funds and their goals. With this analysis, you can quickly identify which funds donors prefer and which are at risk of meeting their goals. For more information, see Overall Fund Progress.

  • Under Top appeals, you can compare giving through your ten top-grossing active appeals toward their goals. With this analysis, you can quickly determine which solicitations resonate with donors and which to reconsider or tweak for future solicitations. For more information, see Overall Appeal Progress.

  • Under Gifts by constituent code, you can compare gifts by their donors' primary constituent codes to determine who's giving and engaged. For more information, see Recent Gifts by Constituent Code.

By default, the metrics under Giving — except Year over year performance — include all giving over the past seven calendar days. To analyze giving from a different time period or related to specific campaigns, funds, or appeals, use the filters. For more information, see Giving Overview Analysis Filters.

Note: The metrics under Giving respect security by fund and automatically exclude gifts you don't have rights to view. For more information, see Record Security.

Donor Lifecycle

The acquisition and retention of donors are key to effective fundraising. To determine how effectively you acquire and retain supporters, refer to the metrics under Donor lifecycle.

  • Under Donors by lifecycle status, you can quickly view where your constituents currently fall in the donor lifecycle — such as how many are new, retained, or recaptured, compared to how many lapsed, started to lapse, or were lost —to help prioritiize donor interactions and constituent relationships.

  • Under Donor lifecycle over time, you can track donor acquisition and retention compared to donor attrition over the past five years.

If your donors lapse at a higher rate than your acquisition and retention, analyze why to determine the root cause and how to turn it around. For more information, see Donor Lifecycle.

Tip: By default, the metrics under Donor lifecycle include all constituents. To analyze only constituents with specific primary constituent codes or lifecycle statuses, use the filters.

Note: To view a list of constituents included in the number-crunching, select the metric under Donor lifecycle. While the metrics consider all constituents, their lists respect security by constituent code and may include fewer records, based on who you have rights to view. For more information, see Record Security.

Actions

To help keep tasks and interactions on track and determine which types of interactions resonate with fundraisers and constituents, select the time frame of the actions to analyze in the Action date filter and refer to the metrics under Actions.

  • Under Action summary, you can view how many high-value personal interactions — phone calls or face-to-face meetings — were completed (or not) over the selected period of time.

  • Under High value actions, you can compare how many phone calls and face-to-face meetings occurred over the selected period of time.

For more information, see High-Value Actions Analysis.

Note: In the Action date field, quarters follow a calendar — rather than fiscal — year.

Opportunities

With Prospect Research Management, you can plan and track opportunities to build relationships with prospects and secure major gifts. To analyze the progress of your active efforts and quickly identify bottlenecks, you can view how many opportunities are at each stage of your solicitation process under Opportunities. For more information, see Proposal Status Analysis.
