Getting Started with Premium Chat for Blackbaud AI

Premium Chat for Blackbaud AI unlocks advanced AI chat capabilities including data visualizations and deeper prospect insights. Follow the steps below to enable this feature and prepare your team to use premium Chat capabilities.

Steps

Step 1: Enable Chat for Blackbaud AI in your environment Admin

Generative AI (including Chat for Blackbaud AI) must be opted in at the environment level before users can access the Chat feature.

To enable Chat for Blackbaud AI:

  1. Navigate to Settings > Administration > Configuration > Artificial Intelligence.

  2. Check the box next to Enable generative AI capabilities.

  3. Click Save.

Once this setting is enabled, users with the appropriate Chat permission can access Chat for Blackbaud AI throughout Raiser's Edge NXT.

Step 2: Assign Chat permission to users Admin

To access Chat for Blackbaud AI, users need the Chat with Blackbaud AI task permission assigned through an artificial intelligence role. This permission is required for all Chat functionality, including premium features.

To assign the Chat with Blackbaud AI permission:

  1. In Security, select Role management.

  2. Under Artificial intelligence roles, open the role assigned to your users (or select New to create one).

  3. Under Blackbaud AI tasks, select Chat with Blackbaud AI.

  4. Select Save.

  5. If you created a new role, navigate to User management and assign the role to each user who needs access.

Users with this permission can now access Chat for Blackbaud AI when they log in.

Step 3: Brief your team on Chat premium capabilities Admin

Help your team understand what Chat for Blackbaud AI can do. Here are the premium capabilities available:

  • Data Visualizations: Users can ask Chat to display query results as bar charts, pie charts, or formatted lists, making it easier to spot trends and patterns in constituent data.

  • Advanced Prospect Insights: Chat provides deeper analysis of prospect information, giving fundraisers more context for their outreach and pipeline planning.

Share these capabilities with your fundraising team so they understand the new tools at their disposal.

Step 4: Use Chat with premium features Fundraiser

Now you're ready to leverage Chat for Blackbaud AI's premium capabilities in your daily work.

Requesting data visualizations:

  1. Open Chat for Blackbaud AI from any record or from the home page.

  2. Ask Chat to show data as a chart, such as: "Show me a pie chart of my top 10 donors by total giving."

  3. Chat will display the visualization directly in the conversation. You can print or download the chart image.

Using advanced prospect insights:

  1. When working with a prospect or constituent, ask Chat deeper questions about their profile, giving history, or engagement patterns.

  2. Chat will provide enhanced analysis to help you identify opportunities and personalize your outreach.
