Instead of manually searching for information or starting from a blank page, you can ask Blackbaud AI Chat to draft content, suggest ideas, or surface insights based on your data and fundraising best practices. You decide how to use the results, refining and personalizing them to match your voice and goals.

How Blackbaud AI Chat Works

Think of Blackbaud AI Chat as a helpful assistant that supports your day-to-day work:

You enter a question or prompt.
The system uses AI to generate a draft, suggestion, or summary based on the context of your Raiser's Edge NXT data.
You interact to suggest revisions or ask refining questions.
You then review, edit, and decide how to use the result.

You don’t need any technical or AI background. Just describe what you need, and the system does the heavy lifting — helping you save time and focus on building stronger relationships with donors.

Get Started with Blackbaud AI Chat

To use Blackbaud AI Chat, a few setup steps are required:

Enable generative AI features: Before you can use Blackbaud AI Chat, your organization admin must opt in to generative AI features in your Blackbaud environment. Once enabled, the authorization applies to all current and future generative AI features across your Blackbaud products. For details, see Opt In to Generative AI Features Globally help. If you don’t opt in, your organization remains opted out by default. but you won't be able to use Blackbaud AI Chat.
Set permissions: Solution admins must assign the Artificial intelligence role to users who need access to Blackbaud AI Chat.
Open Blackbaud AI Chat: In Raiser’s Edge NXT, select the Blackbaud AI - Chat sparkle icon in the top navigation.

Adjust the Size of Blackbaud AI Chat

Make room for longer responses, such as tables, while you keep working in the page behind chat. You can adjust the size of Blackbaud AI Chat in these ways:

Drag the edge — Drag the left edge of the panel to make it wider or narrower, up to half of your browser window. Your width is saved.
Reset the width — Double-click the edge of the panel to return to the default width.
Use the keyboard — Press Tab to move to the edge of the panel, then use the arrow keys to resize it.
Expand to full screen — Select the double-arrow icon in the panel header to use your whole screen, and select it again to return to the panel.
