Create reviewer chairs
Use reviewer chairs to make your reviewer groups more autonomous.
A reviewer chair has more access to information (and potentially privileges) than a traditional reviewer, such as:
-
All information on an opportunity's Details tab
-
All reviewable applications, even those not qualified for the opportunity
-
The progress and scores of other reviewers
-
The ability to change application categories and extend award offers (if desired)
Tip: To see what it's like to be a reviewer chair, check out our recorded walkthrough.

-
To provide a single point of contact for a reviewer group
-
When your reviewer committee is making the final awarding decision
-
To delegate reviewer management

To create a reviewer chair:
-
Go to Opportunity, Evaluators, Reviewer Groups.
-
Select a reviewer group.
-
Go to the Reviewers tab.
-
On one or more reviewer accounts, select Chair.
-
Select Update Reviewers.
Note: There is no limit to the number of reviewer chairs per reviewer group.

Without any configuration, a reviewer chair can see additional information about opportunities:
-
Details: Chairs can see all dates, notes, financial information from the opportunity's Details tab
-
Applications: Chairs can see an application grid containing all applications in a reviewable category (even those not assigned to the reviewer group because of qualifications). These applications will include all questions marked as Reviewable.
-
Reviews: Chairs can see the progress and scores of other reviewers in their group, which is helpful for evaluating reviewer fairness and ensuring review completion

To allow reviewer chairs to move applications into specific categories, create custom categories that are Reviewer Chair Assignable.
If these categories also Encumber Funds, chairs can extend award offers to applicants—within the Minimum and Maximum Award Amount—without an admin's help.
For more information about application categories, see Manage application categories.
Tip: For more guidance on using chairs in your reviewer groups, see Manage special reviewing scenarios.
