Donation Types
Credit Card
These are donations made using a credit card method. Default credit card types that we currently acknowledge are Visa, Discover, Amex, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Visa Checkout (Wallet).
Note: Individual processors, such as CanadaHelps, may support fewer credit card types.
The maximum credit card donation you can make is $50,000.00, and the minimum you can make is $10.00.
How recurring credit card pledges work
Recurring donations are gifts you set up once, and then your credit card is automatically charged on a schedule you select, such as weekly, monthly, or quarterly, so you don’t have to remember to donate each time.
A few important notes about recurring pledges:
-
Recurring donations are only available for certain U.S. charities using the Blackbaud Giving Fund processor.
-
They only apply in certain donation experiences using Blackbaud Integrated Payments.
-
They stay tied to the campaign where they were created and won't automatically continue into new campaigns.
-
They’re treated as regular credit card donations, so you can’t manage or filter recurring ones separately.
-
You can’t upload them in bulk or import them.
-
You can’t include or exclude them separately in programs like matching gifts, giving campaigns, employee giving programs, or peer-to-peer fundraising.
-
You also can’t customize how they count toward participation or reporting levels.
Why a recurring donation might stop
Warning: You’ll receive an email letting you know if your donation didn’t go through or was canceled. You may need to update your payment method or set up a new donation to continue giving.
A recurring donation may not be completed for a few different reasons.
-
There’s an issue with your credit card (for example, the payment is declined).
-
Your account with your employer is no longer active.
-
Your employer changed settings that affected how donations are handled, such as fee coverage.
-
You chose to stop your donation.
There are also situations outside your control that may keep your donation from completing.
-
The donation can’t be processed because of certain regulations or compliance rules, such as California law (Assembly Bill 488).
-
The nonprofit you’re donating to is no longer eligible to receive donations (for example, due to legal or policy requirements).
-
There’s an issue holding the funds during processing, so the donation can’t move forward.
