Content Categories
All content on your site is contained in categories, which page managers create.
The options for each category vary based on the content type used, but all content categories share some of the same basic fields.
For the media content types (audio, photo, and video), the content items are referred to as albums. For information about event categories, see Events.

Security settings vital to ensure that only members of specific roles can view content in search results.
Content is not secured based on the page it is on (i.e. pages behind the password) because Search indexes content categories directly. Thus, content behind the password is returned in search results, unless the category it resides in is secure.
Page managers and content managers can make a content category secure. This ensures that only users with certain roles can find the content via search and view the content.
This security setting works in conjunction with security that you may have previous configured at the page and master page level for your school site.
Page managers and content managers can set the security of content categories to limit who can view the content.

Most content types include a field that enables you to control the dates when the content is published and when it expires. Content is published at 12:00 a.m. on the Publish date and remains published until 11:59 p.m. on the Expire date. The same applies if the Publish and Expire dates are the same date. If the item is published on the current date, it publishes immediately when saved. This applies to Sign in actions messages and Events, as well as to some of the content categories.
