Set Up Program Funding

Program funding determines which budgets and funding sources are available when awards and payments are created. In Grantmaking, funding is assigned at the cycle level so each application window can use the correct financial structure.

How Program Funding Works

Programs use budgets, and in some configurations those budgets also include funding sources. This setup allows your team to control how awards are funded and which defaults appear during downstream grant processing.

• Use budgets when your site is configured for simple budget management.

• Use funding sources with budgets when your site is configured for more detailed funding allocation.

• Define defaults at the cycle level so grant managers can assign funding consistently.

Set Up Funding at the Cycle Level

Note: You do not assign budgets directly on the program overview. Funding is configured in each cycle.

To assign available budgets and select the default budget or funding source for a cycle, use Add New Cycles when creating a new cycle, or use Edit Cycles to update an existing one.

Plan Funding for Ongoing Programs

When a program spans multiple cycles, review funding setup each time you open a new cycle. This helps ensure the correct budgets remain available and that default selections match the new intake period.

Tip: Before publishing a cycle, verify that all intended budgets are selected and that the default cash or in-kind budget is correct for that cycle’s awards and payments.
