Add or edit opportunities

Opportunities help you plan and track efforts to build relationships with prospects and secure major gifts. To create, or add, an opportunity, use the following procedure. To edit an existing opportunity, see edit opportunity.

Note: An opportunity can only be associated with one constituent. However, a constituent may have multiple opportunities associated with them.

Add an opportunity

  1. To add an opportunity, select Add opportunity from one of the following locations.

    • from a list of constituents, select Add opportunity from the constituent's menu

    • from the Work Center, select Add opportunity

    • from a constituent's record, select Add opportunity under Opportunities

  2. To help group the opportunity for later analysis, in the Purpose field, choose the reason to ask the constituent for the gift.

  3. Enter a name to identify the opportunity.

  4. In the Status field, choose the opportunity's current stage in your organization's solicitation process. For more information, see Proposal Status.

  5. In the Deadline field, enter when you want to receive the gift.

  6. Under Funding, enter the dates and amounts of the gifts you want, anticipate, and receive from the opportunity. For more information, see Proposal Funding Amounts.

  7. In the Assign to field, search for and select who will manage the opportunity.

    Tip: If you currently manage the constituent, the opportunity is automatically assigned to you. To assign it to someone else, select them from the suggested fundraisers next to Assign to.

    Tip: To credit a fundraiser for giving that results from their effort, edit the opportunity after you receive its gifts. For more information, see Proposal Records.

  8. Under Details, select the intended uses for gifts given in response to the opportunity.

    • In the Campaign field, select the overall fundraising effort or initiative the gifts apply to, such as operating expenses, a new building, or an endowment.

    • In the Fund field, select the specific cause or financial purpose the gifts apply to, such as the landscaping for a larger building campaign.

      Note: When you select a restricted fund or campaign, you can only select its associated campaigns or funds.

  9. In the Gift type field, select how you expect to receive giving, such as recurring commitments or gifts-in-kind.

  10. In the Likelihood field, select how confident you are that giving will result from the opportunity.

  11. Select Save.

Edit an opportunity

You can edit the details of an opportunity to change the person assigned to manage it or the opportunity's deadline.

  1. To edit an opportunity, select Edit opportunity from one of the following locations.

    • from an opportunity, select Edit opportunity

    • from the Work Center, Opportunities, select Edit opportunity from an opportunity's menu

    • from a constituent's record, under Opportunities select Edit opportunity from an opportunity's menu

  2. Adjust the information as necessary.

  3. Select Save.

Tip: To update specific information about an opportunity, such as the details, fundraiser assignment or funding, on an opportunity record, select Edit in the information area to update.
