Set up flexible applications
A flexible application lets applicants apply for awards unrelated to your General Application (e.g., faculty research grants, graduate fellowships, etc.).
Note: The number of available flexible applications depends on your Award Management subscription.
Prepare your system for flexible applications
Flexible applications function similarly to other applications in the system, with four important differences:
-
Change the portfolio type: When creating a new portfolio, set the portfolio's Type to Flexible. For more guidance on creating portfolios, see Work with portfolios
-
Create flexible application categories (optional): To adjust how flexible applications move through your system, set up unique application categories. For more guidance, see Manage application categories.
-
Provide opportunity URL: To make sure applicants find your flexible opportunity:
-
Go to your opportunity's Details page.
-
Under Public Opportunity Webpage, select Copy URL.
-
Make this URL available to your applicants (email invitations, departmental web pages, etc.).
-
-
Set the review group's source: If you're using review groups for your flexible opportunity, make sure you've set the group's Source to Flexible Applications. For more on reviewing applications, see Manage reviews.
Other than a simplified application experience, flexible opportunities offer the same experience as apply-to applications for admins, applicants, and reviewers.
How do applicants access flexible opportunities?
Applicants can access these opportunities by:
-
Going to the Public Opportunity Webpage URL (if shared)
-
Using the keyword search
-
Going to Opportunities, Grant
Note: This menu item may be different if you've updated the Custom Text field for Flexible Opportunities.
Tip: To preserve historical information, clone and archive flexible applications after each award is finished. For more guidance, see Clone and archive opportunities.
