Compare the Export Module and Single-Row Query

Note: Don't see this yet? No need to worry. Expect its wider release in a future update.

The Export module in database view and single-row Query in web view can both return one row per record, but they differ in how you build, use, and view results. Choose between single-row and multi-row results based on how you want to work with the data. Result Layout explains each option.

Where to Find Them

In web view, find single-row queries under Analysis, Query and export. Single-row queries are available only in web view. The Export module is available only in database view.

In web view, exporting is an action you can take in many places, such as queries, reports, and lists, so there is no separate Export module.

Use Single-Row Query in More Workflows

You can set criteria, choose a static or dynamic format, open records from results, and view results in the query without exporting them.

Filter and Sort Records

The Export module provides a limited set of filters for each node. In single-row Query, you can filter and sort by any field under a node, or combine fields to narrow results.

Single-row Query also includes features such as the Active Dates filter and the In query results of operator. You can sort constituency code values by the order configured for the code table in Settings.

Choose Which Records to Include

In a single-row query, set Head of household under Options. In the Export module, this setting is under General.

Use Select from query to choose a starting group of records in a single-row query. It serves the same purpose as Include on the General tab in the database view Export module. Learn how to use Select from Query to choose a saved query as your starting group.

You can also add criteria to a single-row query to narrow the records it returns.

Understand Field and Column Differences

Database view Query and the Export module don't have identical field lists. Some fields are available in one but not the other. Web-view single-row and multi-row queries generally use the same fields, and most Export module fields are available in both Query layouts.

Column names also differ. In single-row Query (like the Export module), you can still rename columns or nodes. Query names result fields based on the query structure. The field naming guide explains the pattern.
